The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Professor Fuh Calistus Gentry, has chaired the activities marking the 25th edition of the African Technology Day and Intellectual Property (JATPI) today in the MINCOMMERCE conference room.
This year’s theme, “Intellectual Property and Financing of Innovation in Africa,” highlights the critical role of intellectual property in fostering innovation across the continent. The event was established during the 35th ordinary session of the Council of Heads of State and Government in Algiers on July 14, 1999. Since then, September 13 has become an opportunity for African nations and civil society to reflect on policies and strategies that address technological development challenges.
The Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development (MINMIDT), in collaboration with the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), is actively supporting inventors, researchers, SMEs, and start-ups through funding mechanisms designed to promote invention and innovation. For several years, MINMIDT has financed prototypes, patents, and brands created by independent researchers and academics.
The ceremony featured officials of various ministries, including MINEPAT, MINPOSTEL, and MINESUP.
