In a resounding recognition of his unwavering commitment to justice, Barrister Edward Lyonga Ewule has been named Human Rights Lawyer of the Year by the Victoria International Media Merits Award (VIIMMA). The prestigious award was presented during a grand ceremony on Friday, August 16, at Lawat Hotel in Douala.
The award committee praised Barrister Ewule for his tireless advocacy and resource mobilisation for the underprivileged, distinguishing him from his peers.
“His advocacy and resource mobilisation for the underprivileged put him a notch higher and scored him more points than his peers in securing the award,” the committee affirmed.
This accolade is the latest in a series of honours for Barrister Ewule, who has become a beacon of hope for the marginalised in society. Just months ago, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his extensive contributions to human rights, adding to his growing collection of accolades.
As the Principal Counsel of Legend Law Offices in Buea and the founder of the Legend Human Rights Foundation, Barrister Ewule has dedicated his career to defending those who cannot defend themselves. His work has made a tangible impact on countless lives, solidifying his reputation as a formidable advocate for justice.
The award from VIMMA underscores Barrister Ewule’s influence and dedication, further establishing him as one of the leading voices in human rights advocacy in Cameroon. This award comes to add to a total of six that Barrister Edward Lyonga Ewule has received in the past five years. Other awards include the Life Achievement 2024 Rights Defender of the Year, the Canadian Embassy 2023 Lawyer of the Year, the Presbyterian Church 2023 Lawyer of the Year, the Dreams Network 2022 Lawyer of the Year, and the PANNAFES 2022 Lawyer of the Year.
