Renowned academic and technology expert, Professor Victor Mbarika, has been honoured at the prestigious Heroes Impact Awards in Cameroon.
The award ceremony which took place on January 24, 2025, in Yaoundé, recognised Professor Mbarika’s outstanding contributions to the development of technology and education in Cameroon.
As a distinguished scholar and innovator, Professor Mbarika has made significant strides in promoting digital inclusion and bridging the technology gap in Cameroon. He is the founding president of the ICT University, a leading institution in technology and innovation education in Central Africa.
While receiving the award on behalf of Professor Mbarika, the Vice Chancellor of ICT University, Professor Pondi, said, “This award is a recognition that goes straight to the heart. The ICT University sent us here to represent Professor Victor Mbarika, who has received several awards before, including the highest award in the United States, the Presidential Recognition Award from Joe Biden”.
Under his leadership, the ICT University has established partnerships with top international universities and organisations, providing students with access to cutting-edge technology and research opportunities. The university has also launched various initiatives to promote digital literacy and entrepreneurship among young Cameroonians.

Professor Mbarika’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to education and technology in Africa. Some of his notable awards include the African Leadership Magazine’s “Educational Leadership Award” and the “African Achievers Award” for his outstanding contributions to education in Africa. He also received the 2022 Man of the Year” award from The Guardian Post and the “African Entrepreneurship Prize 2021” from the International Committee of Excellence. The biggest among the awards, was a recognition from former US President, Joe Biden.
In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Professor Mbarika is also a respected thought leader and advocate for technology-driven development in Africa. He has written extensively on topics related to technology, innovation, and education, and has presented papers at various international conferences.
