The highly anticipated finals of the CAMTEL Blue Tech Challenge showcasing innovative digital solutions from Cameroon’s brightest young minds took place on October 2, 2024. The initiative fostered by CAMTEL General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, highlighted Cameroon’s thriving digital ecosystem.
Launched on May 21, 2024, as part of CAMTEL’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, the Blue Tech Challenge aimed to uncover and reward outstanding digital projects as a way of promoting innovative tech solutions to societal problems and challenges faced by Cameroonians.
From 289 entries, 30 finalists emerged to compete for the top spots. Judith Yah highlighted, “We’re honouring innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills of Cameroonian youths. Blue Tech Challenge is more than a competition; it’s a showcase for digital excellence made in Cameroon.”
At the end of the tech challenge, eight talented young Cameroonians were crowned the 2024 CAMTEL Blue Tech Challenge champions. After a rigorous selection process, the winners were announced from among 30 finalists who all competed for the top spots.
Moses Anuagueleh Afobezi, co-founder of AgricFresh, won in the Blue Star category. His startup helps small-scale farmers reduce post-harvest losses using solar panels, sensors, and batteries. “AgricFresh also provides market access and educational videos,” Afobezi explained. He was followed by Cedric Hugues Ngbwa Ngbwa in the second position. David Kenfac emerged third in the category.
For the Blue Academic Innovation category, Treasure Bah Nkwambi came out top. She was followed in the second position by Murielle Nahomy Kombou, and in the third by Johan Megnemo Wirdzeyii.
The Blue Tech Women category had Grace Megaptech Djambou emerging top among her peers.
In the Handi Blue category, Rayan Hessack emerged with the best project.
CAMTEL Director General Judith Yah Sunday emphasized that , “The Blue Tech Challenge showcases digital excellence made in Cameroon, honouring innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit.”
According to CAMTEL, the Blue Tech Challenge winners will receive mentorship, training, and national recognition, paving the way for a brighter digital future in Cameroon, and also to a greater extent, encourage solution-oriented inventions.
Launched in May 2024, the competition aimed to showcase innovative talents in Cameroon’s ICT ecosystem, targeting youths aged 15-35. The contest attracted 289 applicants, with 50 shortlisted and 30 advancing to the final stage.
The competition is part of CAMTEL’s 25th-anniversary celebrations, and promotes innovative projects and technological practices. Apart from visibility, winners will also receive funding opportunities, networking connections, and mentorship to support digital advancements and contribute to a sustainable future.
