The Play to Beat Cancer Football Match and Gala is an initiative driven by personal loss, compassion, and a deep commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer in Cameroon. The event is initiated by Makon’s Care Foundation led by its founder Mr. Yong Mark, a passionate philanthropist and community leader who has been profoundly moved by the impact breast cancer has had on his loved ones.
Mr. Yong Mark’s journey toward founding this initiative began with the painful experience of watching a close relative battle breast cancer. His relative’s fight was not only physical but emotional, and the entire family felt the weight of the illness. Though his loved one eventually overcame the disease, the journey left an indelible mark on everyone’s heart including Mr. Yong Mark’s.
The inspiration for Play to Beat Cancer was further deepened when a close friend tragically lost her mother to breast cancer. Mr. Yong Mark saw the toll the disease took on her and her family and realised how vital it was to offer not just financial support, but also hope, education, and a platform for raising awareness.
Moved by these personal experiences, Mr. Yong Mark decided to create an event that would unite people, raise funds, and inspire action in the fight against breast cancer Thus, the Play to Beat Cancer Football Match and Gala which will be a day of sportsmanship, entertainment, and solidarity, designed to raise awareness and much-needed resources for local breast cancer support organizations in Cameroon.
The event includes a thrilling football match where local celebrities, athletes, and community leaders will come together to play for a cause greater than the game itself. It will be followed by a gala evening, where survivors, their families, and supporters can share their stories, celebrate resilience, and honour those who have fought or are currently fighting breast cancer.
