The Cameroon Forces of Law and Order have initiated an extensive manhunt to apprehend Randolph Nyi Shribe, a 24-year-old suspected separatist collaborator who allegedly escaped from Buea Central Prison. Authoritative sources from the Southwest Anti-Terrorism Mobile Police Force (ESIR) indicated that Randolph is sought for his alleged involvement in aiding and abetting terrorism through collaborative activities.

“Through our intelligence and investigation, we determined that Randolph is the mastermind behind the procurement and other activities for the terrorists in Muyuka. We have been monitoring his activities for some time until we finally apprehended him,” a police source said

Randolph was initially arrested by the police on February 5, 2022. He was apprehended at his shop alongside two others in Muyuka and taken into custody for interrogation before being transferred to Buea Central Prison, from which he reportedly escaped.

“My team apprehended Randolph and two suspects in his shop in Muyuka and brought them to our cell for investigation. He was cooperative and confessed to his crimes, which were documented and submitted to the Commissioner of Government in Buea for legal proceedings. He was then remanded in custody and handed over to Buea Central Prison. We were shocked to learn that he had vanished just one week into his detention,” the source explained.

It is reported that Randolph did enter the prison but disappeared under unclear circumstances. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Prison Superintendent Mekondo Ndingue Simone Pierre was summoned before the Procureur General of the Southwest Region for questioning.

When approached by Eden, Randolph’s family claimed to be unaware of his whereabouts. They stated that the security forces had besieged their home in search of him.

“Since Randolph was arrested by the security forces, we have not seen him. We don’t know if he is dead or alive. We have been searching but cannot find him. They even came here some weeks ago and ransacked our home, burning down Randolph’s apartment along with his business items. We are living in constant fear and intimidation,” a family source expatiated.

It remains unclear whether Randolph fled the prison or was taken to an undisclosed location where he is being held incommunicado.

Since 2016, the crisis in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon has escalated into an armed conflict, resulting in the deaths of thousands. Both sides of the conflict have faced accusations of human rights abuses. According to Human Rights Watch, the conflict has led to 7,000 deaths, 21,000 arbitrary arrests, 4,000 kidnappings, and over 24,000 injuries.
