A rejuvenated Public Works Department, Kumba, alias Meme Works headed by President and Coach, Maxwell Bissong, dominated Continental Football Academy, alias the Gra-Gra Boys of Buea, 3-0 to stay top of the all-round Mini-Interpools.

With a 1-1 draw in the first game, against NQSA, a 1-0 defeat over LIFCA, the boys from Kumba were sharing the first position with NQSA who also had 4points in their bag. The final day of play proved to be the decider of the table, as NQSA was to clash with city rival, LIFCA, standing third with 3points, while PWD Kumba was to battle it out with Continental FA bottom of the chart, with zero points.

Coach Bissong opted for same starting XI that gave him a positive result against the big money spending LIFCA, after haven parted ways with Head Coach Lazare Mbounya for his poor runs in the last games, the management of Continental FA allowed Coach Bawak who was assistant to Coach Mbounya takes charge of the Gra-Gra boys. This gentleman made changes in his starting XI, keeping Goalkeeper Stephen Njoke on the bench for Gergson Nyuk and Wallace Otambi came in as striker.

The wounded Continental FA began on fine footing dominating the Kumba boys but remained wasteful when it came to converting their chances. Three minutes to the end of the first half, PWD Kumba was handed a penalty for a foul committed by the goalkeeper for Continental and 1-0 for PWD Kumba, courtesy Kelson Ebile Namse.

The second half was more entertaining as fans of the Kumba boys trooped into the Limbe Centenary Stadium to encourage their side. With The Gra-Gra boys being wasteful with goal-scoring opportunities, Captain Bibish Abane and his teammates believed more as Kelson got a brace, five minutes to the end. The icing on the cake came from Bertrand Takie who made it PWD Kumba 3-0 Continental FA in extra time.

Speaking to the press after the game, President and Coach of PWD Kumba Maxwell Bissong, said “Our strength this afternoon was discipline, concentration, and fair play. We agreed none of the players should get into the books of the referee. This is just the beginning we are going to work hard so that we represent the region and return with an Elite 2 ticket. We call on all the sons, daughters, senators and all dignitaries of the Southwest region to come support the team.” Coach Bissong added.

“We kept our belief in God despite the fact that we were rated the underdogs of the tournament. Kumba had been in the slumps when it comes to Southwest football for a while and I feel so proud to be that Captain who led this team to this level. I call on the entire Southwest region to support PWD Kumba.” Captain Bibish Abane remarked.

Sad Gergson Nyuk, Goalkeeper for Continental FA told Atlantic Chronicles after the encounter that “The match was a good one, we came here to win but it was unfortunate we failed to get the needed results. We have played three matches and lost all, but the will of God prevailed. So we wish PWD Kumba the best as they move to the next level.”
