The Ashong Social Cultural and Development Association (ASCUDA) has mobilised over 16 million Francs CFA for a transformative new Multipurpose Community Hall. The significant sum, 70% of which is in firm pledges, was secured during the association’s Annual General Meeting in Yaoundé on 13th December 2025.

Ashong, the largest village in the Momo Division of Cameroon’s Northwest Region with a population of roughly 9,000, has long been driven by community-led development. ASCUDA is once again at the forefront of this progress with its latest ambitious project.

The hall, with an estimated total cost of 120 million CFA, is envisioned as a vital hub for official functions, youth empowerment schemes, and various cultural activities. Mbah John Timben, President General of ASCUDA, stated the facility will provide a dedicated platform for community engagement and skills development.

The fundraising effort saw notable generosity from individuals and businesses. Major contributions included a 1 million CFA donation from Fongoh & Partners Real Estate. Tikum Vincent, Quality Director of Telcar Cocoa, who also contributed substantially, stressed the ethos behind the support: “Many people are accustomed to the aspect of receiving in life; very few will try the aspect of giving. There is more blessing that goes with giving back to life than receiving.”

His Royal Highness, Fon Mbafor Christopher III of Ashong, praised ASCUDA’s relentless efforts and the contributors’ generosity. He recounted ongoing development projects, including village electrification, before highlighting the hall’s future role: “We intend to establish facilities there, perhaps for tailoring, putting in machines so that our youth can acquire vocational skills… It will provide a convenient avenue for all activities.”

Despite the socio-political and economic challenges facing the region, the Yaoundé branch president, Ndum John Teboh, noted that Ashong was singled out for this project to actively preserve and promote its culture. The event underscored the profound patriotism and resolve of the Ashong diaspora.

Having previously successfully delivered projects like a new palace and water supply, ASCUDA is now poised to begin construction on the hall soon, with further support anticipated from the government and villagers.
