North Region Expresses Gratitude to Biya for Ultramodern Cement Plant

The Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, has officially commissioned an ultra-modern cement and clinker producing plant in Figuil-Garoua, North Region of Cameroon. The population has expressed gratitude to President Biya and his government for realizing the project that is of immense importance to them.

The plant, worth CFA 60 billion, is expected to increase Cameroon’s cement production by 500,000 tons yearly.The grandiose commissioning ceremony, attended by numerous dignitaries, who turned out to mark a significant milestone in Cameroon’s industrial development. Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute, representing the Head of State, highlighted the plant’s benefits, including retaining capital in the country and reducing clinker imports, which will go a long way to retain capital and develop the local economy. The plant is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy, generating employment opportunities for numerous Cameroonian youths.

According to reports, the factory could potentially employ close to 1,000 young Cameroonians. The increased production capacity is also expected to lead to a reduction in cement prices, which have experienced significant hikes over the years.The project involves a significant investment of over CFA 60 billion, which will strengthen Cimencam’s product offering and increase production capacity.

The plant’s expansion includes the addition of identical MVR mills for raw material and cement grinding, which will expand the current cement capacity of 0.15 million tons.

The plant aims to cover the needs of the three northern regions of Cameroon, as well as border countries such as Chad and the Central African Republic who will be potential markets for the surplus that is expected to be produced. This strategic location will enable the plant to supply cement to a wide market, promoting economic growth and development in the region.

The commissioning of the plant is a testament to the good relationship between President Paul Biya and the people of the North. The government has invested heavily in infrastructure projects in the region, including the construction of the Regional hospital in Garoua and the rehabilitation of the Ngoundere-Garoua road.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, PM, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute said, “This modern facility is just one of the several benefits the people of the North have enjoyed from their relationship with President Paul Biya. We think of the Garoua Regional hospital, the imminent rehabilitation of the Ngoundere-Garoua road, and many other infrastructural projects that have been carried out in the North Region.”

The Director General of the factory, Xavier le Grand, added, “This factory will increase the production capacity of the country to 500,000 tons of cement yearly. So it will supply cement in all the Northern regions and even export to Chad.”The commissioning of the ultra-modern cement plant marks a significant milestone in Cameroon’s industrial development, and its impact is expected to be felt across the region.
