Graduates of the Yaoundé-based higher education institution, ICT University, have finally received certificates vetted by the University of Buea (UB).
The certificates were presented to hundreds of graduates during a ceremony held on Friday, July 31, in Yaoundé. The event brought together several distinguished guests, including renowned preacher Apostle John Chi.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President and Founder of ICT University, Victor Mbarika, thanked Apostle John Chi for honouring the institution with his presence despite receiving a late invitation.
“We are delighted to have Apostle John Chi with us today. Despite the short notice, he made himself available. The award presented to him today celebrates his legacy and the work he continues to do for young people. His presence means a great deal to us,” Prof Mbarika said.
Reflecting on the institution’s previous dispute with the University of Buea, Prof Mbarika said the matter had been resolved and that both institutions had moved forward.
“People often focus on the negative aspects of an issue and forget what truly matters. Today, everything is fine. We thank the University of Buea for the maturity it demonstrated,” he said.
The internationally recognised scholar added: “We now have certificates signed by the University of Buea, which is a highly respected institution. What matters is that our graduates have finally received their certificates and can now use them wherever required.”
The graduates expressed relief and gratitude after the prolonged wait.
One of the graduates, Fossi Joyceline, said receiving her certificate would enable her to continue her education.
“We have been waiting for a very long time, but thank God the certificates are finally here. I can now further my studies because I have the qualification I need,” she said.
Another graduate, Ayuk Enow, described the occasion as a major relief.
“It is reassuring to see that our certificates have been signed by the University of Buea. We had many questions, but today our doubts have been put to rest. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief because the certificate I worked so hard for is now in my hands,” he said.
Uphold God While Serving Society
In his address, Apostle John Chi commended Prof Mbarika for allowing God to use him to transform lives through education.
He described the ICT University founder as a vessel through whom God is equipping young people to become purposeful contributors to society.
“I am deeply impressed by the warm reception I have received here. It reflects the positive educational environment that exists at this institution. I thank Prof Victor Mbarika for allowing God to use him to impact lives, and I pray that God continues to strengthen and bless him as he serves Cameroon,” the preacher said.
He encouraged graduates to use the knowledge and skills they had acquired to serve humanity and become positive role models in their communities. He also reminded them that true prosperity begins with spiritual growth.
“Include God in your decision-making and you will succeed. As you go out into society, remember that your greatest strength is the Word of God, complemented by the skills you have acquired here. Use both to make a positive impact,” he advised.
Apostle John Chi further urged graduates to avoid bad company, warning that it could corrupt good character.
“Success does not begin from the outside; it begins within, through purposeful actions and determined steps. Make the right choices and remain focused on your journey,” he said.
Addressing parents, he encouraged them to continue supporting and guiding their children.
“Parents should stand by their children. They are at a delicate stage in life and need guidance and encouragement if they are to succeed in their journey,” he added.
