Prime Minister Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has used the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda to showcase Cameroon’s economic potential and rich natural resources to prospective investors, as leaders from across the Commonwealth explore ways of expanding trade and investment within the organisation.

Representing President Paul Biya at the summit, the Head of Government is taking part in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening economic partnerships among the 56 member states. The meeting is being held under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”, with the objective of delivering tangible progress for the organisation’s approximately 2.7 billion citizens.

During side events and working sessions, Dion Ngute highlighted investment opportunities in Cameroon, presenting the country’s economic prospects and resource base as areas with potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.

The Prime Minister also attended the summit’s official opening ceremony on November 3, 2026, which featured a keynote address by King Charles III, Head of the Commonwealth. The British monarch stressed the importance of deliberate investment in member countries, noting that sustainable development and economic resilience depend on creating the right conditions for growth.

On investment priorities, King Charles highlighted access to education and job creation as essential to lifting people out of hardship and disadvantage. Accompanied by Queen Camilla, he also underscored the importance of expanding trade among Commonwealth countries as a means of promoting shared prosperity.

Addressing the historical legacy of the transatlantic slave trade, the King expressed profound personal sorrow over its consequences. He called for the past to be addressed through constructive partnerships, employment opportunities and economic development rather than division.

The summit also featured a number of pledges and announcements. These included a £40 million (approximately US$54 million) investment in critical infrastructure across the Caribbean over the next three years. Participants also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting at least 30 per cent of the world’s land and oceans by 2030.

Dion Ngute further attended a reception hosted by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the summit’s host.

The Cameroonian delegation includes Felix Mbayu, Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, and Albert Njoteh Fotabong, Cameroon’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Deliberations are expected to conclude with the adoption and signing of a final declaration by participating leaders.
