In a move aimed at modernising its administrative services, the University of Garoua has signed a partnership agreement with Mobile Money Corporation (MMC) to integrate the MoMo platform into its tuition payment system.
The signing ceremony, held on Tuesday, was attended by Professor Boubakari Oumarou, Rector of the University of Garoua, and Alain Claude Nono, Chief Executive Officer of MMC. The initiative is designed to facilitate and secure the payment of registration fees and other examination-related charges, offering students a practical and efficient solution.
Through the MoMo platform, students will now be able to complete payments in a few straightforward steps. By visiting the university’s website, entering their registration number, selecting the relevant payment category and confirming the transaction via MoMo, they will receive an immediate certified digital receipt. The innovation responds to the growing demand for simplified administrative procedures and improved efficiency.
University authorities say the project marks a significant step forward in financial transparency and budgetary management. It is also expected to enhance transaction traceability and reduce the risks associated with manual cash handling. By cutting waiting times and minimising the need for travel to make payments, the institution hopes to encourage swift adoption of the system among students.
The initiative follows a series of thorough technical tests, including verification of the integration between the university’s digital platform and MoMo, simulation of payment processes and training sessions for administrative staff. These preparatory measures were intended to ensure the system meets modern operational standards.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alain Nono underscored his company’s commitment to supporting the development of the education sector by providing students with a reliable and convenient means of meeting their academic financial obligations.
The Rector, Professor Oumarou, described the digitisation of payments as a decisive step towards building a more modern institution that is responsive to students’ needs.
The University of Garoua considers the partnership a strategic lever for strengthening university governance and aligning its operations with the national strategy for digital transformation in higher education.
With this collaboration, the university is positioning itself at the forefront of digital innovation in the education sector, aiming to foster a more accessible, transparent and student-centred system.
