King Charles III, Dion Ngute Exchange Views on Cameroon-UK Relations

Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, has held discussions with King Charles III on relations between Cameroon and the United Kingdom.

The two personalities met on November 3, 2026, during a reception hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the Blue Waters Hotel in Antigua and Barbuda. The gathering followed the official opening of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

At the reception, the British monarch and Queen Camilla took time to greet heads of delegation attending the summit, including Prime Minister Dion Ngute, who is representing President Paul Biya.

During their brief exchange, the Prime Minister conveyed the Head of State’s cordial greetings and best wishes for the Commonwealth deliberations. He also reaffirmed Cameroon’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding and diverse relations with the United Kingdom.

King Charles III appeared particularly pleased by the encounter, recalling his visit to Cameroon in March 1990, when he was still Prince of Wales.

Dion Ngute also exchanged greetings with Queen Camilla. Their brief conversation provided an opportunity to reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthening relations between the two countries, which maintain longstanding ties and common principles.

The reception brought together political leaders, international dignitaries, business executives and civil society representatives from across the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries. It provided an opportunity for delegates to connect, exchange views and explore areas of cooperation.

King Charles III expressed appreciation for the cordial atmosphere at the gathering, describing it as the spirit that should guide relations among Commonwealth members.

Promoting Cameroon’s Investment Potential

The 28th Commonwealth Summit is being held under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Prime Minister Dion Ngute used his engagements with various personalities to highlight Cameroon’s business climate and investment opportunities.

He drew attention to the country’s rich natural resources, cultural diversity, welcoming environment and tax incentives, particularly those available to foreign investors. He said these measures had been put in place under the directives of President Paul Biya to make Cameroon more attractive to business.

The Prime Minister also held discussions with the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Their exchange touched on trade and investment, against the backdrop of her recent visit to Cameroon for the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference in March 2026.

Dion Ngute underscored the importance of using Commonwealth partnerships to attract investment, expand trade and promote regional economic integration.

He particularly highlighted opportunities in infrastructure, agriculture, energy and the digital economy, urging investors to take advantage of the country’s potential.

He also encouraged them to make use of existing cooperation frameworks and mechanisms to expand commercial exchanges, stimulate investment and build mutually beneficial partnerships.

The engagements reflect Cameroon’s efforts to strengthen its economic appeal and use the Commonwealth as an additional platform for mobilising investment and accelerating national development.
