One of Cameroon’s most accomplished journalists, Arison Tamfu, has been inducted into the prestigious Cameroon Wall of Fame, cementing his place among the country’s most influential media figures.
The recognition, awarded during the 10th anniversary of the Cameroon International Film Festival in Buea, celebrates Tamfu’s enduring contribution to journalism in Cameroon and across Africa.
Presenting the honour, representatives of the Wall of Fame described his career as one marked by “exceptional contributions and lasting impact” within and beyond Cameroon’s borders.
Tamfu, visibly moved, said the recognition reflects years of perseverance in a challenging media landscape. He noted that journalists in Cameroon often operate under difficult conditions, expressing hope that the award would inspire younger reporters to remain committed to professional and impactful storytelling.
A Career Defined by Global Impact
Tamfu’s induction underscores a career that has transcended national boundaries. Currently serving as Central Africa correspondent for Xinhua News Agency, he reports on major developments across Cameroon, Chad, the Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea.
Over the years, his work has featured on leading international platforms, including CNN, Al Jazeera, CGTN and TRT World.
His reporting spans politics, governance, conflict, and human interest stories—often amplifying the voices of ordinary Africans and shedding light on underreported issues. Colleagues frequently describe him as a relentless and courageous journalist committed to factual and impactful storytelling.
Tamfu’s Professional Journey
Tamfu’s career began in Cameroon’s broadcast media, where he rose to become Editor-in-Chief of the English desk at Equinoxe TV and Radio in Douala. From there, he built a reputation as a multimedia journalist with a sharp investigative edge and a strong commitment to ethical reporting.
His work has earned him more than ten international journalism awards, including honours from the United Nations Correspondents Association, the European Union’s Lorenzo Natali Media Awards, the CNN MultiChoice Awards, and the Radio for Peacebuilding Africa Awards. He has also been recognised as a finalist for the Kurt Schork Memorial Awards by the Thomson Reuters Foundation
Beyond awards, Tamfu has distinguished himself through coverage of complex socio-political issues, fact-checking initiatives, and cross-border reporting that contribute to a better understanding of Central Africa’s evolving landscape.
The Cameroon Wall of Fame honours individuals who have significantly enhanced the country’s image, culture and development over time. Tamfu joins a select group of media and entertainment personalities whose work continues to shape national discourse.
His induction is widely seen as recognition not only of personal excellence but also of the vital role of journalism in national development, especially at a time when credible, courageous reporting remains essential to democratic progress in Cameroon and across Africa.
